What is Tattoo Awards?
Tattoo Awards is a national tattoo artist rankings database for tattoo artists and studios across the United States. It brings artist portfolios, locations, specialties and rankings together in one place, organized by city and tattoo style.
You can create a profile for free. Optional Premium features give you more ways to present your business and receive direct inquiries. They do not buy you a higher quality ranking.
How do clients find and contact me?
Your profile lets people see your work, specialties and location. City rankings, local guides and tattoo idea galleries are intended to provide more ways for clients to discover eligible artists as those features launch.
Keep your location, availability and portfolio accurate. When your profile has active Premium contact features, clients can use your configured booking, website or social links to contact you directly. You handle the inquiry and booking arrangements yourself.
Is Tattoo Awards free for artists?
Yes. You can create an artist profile, upload your work and take part in judging for free. You do not need to pay to earn a quality ranking or qualify for an award.
Premium adds profile customization and booking or social links. You can earn it by voting on other artists’ tattoos. See how to unlock Premium below.
How do I create my artist profile?
- Register with your email address and open the verification link.
- Add and confirm a password so you can log in normally next time.
- Enter your professional name, portrait, specialties, location and contact preferences.
- Upload your tattoo portfolio and complete the setup requirements shown in your dashboard.
For a new self-registered profile, you currently need at least five distinct tattoos, completed profile details, finished image processing and 60 valid judgments. There is also a minimum preparation wait while your uploads are processed. Your dashboard shows what is still needed.
How do I claim an existing profile?
If we have already prepared a profile for you, use your private claim invitation rather than creating a duplicate. Verify your email, check the artist details and review the imported portfolio. Remove anything that is not your work or that you do not want published, then approve the portfolio.
Claimed seed profiles have a separate approval process and are exempt from the 60-judgment activation requirement. You still need complete details, at least five distinct tattoos and finished processing. Claiming does not grant ranking points or Premium.
If you do not have an invitation or the details are wrong, contact us for help claiming your profile.
Which tattoo photos should I upload?
Start with 10-20 of your strongest, distinct tattoos if you have them. Show the styles you want to be known for, with enough variety to demonstrate consistent work. Five distinct tattoos is the current minimum for completing your portfolio.
Choose one primary photograph for each tattoo. Do not upload several angles of the same piece as separate tattoos. Upload your own work and make sure you have permission to use the photographs.
Use sharp images, soft and even lighting, and a clear view of the design. Keep colors and texture faithful to the real tattoo. Basic cropping, exposure correction and restrained filtering are fine; AI-generated tattoos, AI enhancement and edits that conceal faults are not.
We process your uploads for display and use AI to help identify visible features such as style and subject. AI classification helps organize the work. It does not decide whether your tattoo is good.
Can I edit or filter my tattoo photos?
Yes, if the photograph still shows the tattoo honestly. Cropping, rotation, basic exposure correction and restrained filtering are allowed. Modest color correction to reduce surrounding skin redness is fine when it does not misrepresent the ink.
Do not use AI enhancement, redraw lines, conceal faults or change the design. Upload tattoos you made and photos you have permission to use. Keep the originals in case ownership or editing needs to be reviewed.
When will my profile be ready?
For a self-registered account, complete your profile details, upload at least five distinct tattoos and cast 60 valid judgments. Your images also need to finish processing, and the minimum preparation wait must end.
Your dashboard shows your upload progress and any remaining setup requirements. If an upload fails or needs attention, resolve that item before completing setup. Having a ready profile does not mean you already have an official ranking.
How do tattoo rankings work?
The intended rankings reflect how your tattoos perform in independent human evaluations. There are two sources of evidence:
- Artist comparisons: artists compare two tattoos and choose the better-executed piece. The aim is to compare similar styles and sizes fairly.
- Public approval: people viewing individual tattoos swipe right if they like the work or left if they do not. This measures appeal and is kept separate from comparison results.
Your artist ranking should reflect quality across distinct pieces in your portfolio, with enough independent evaluations to support the result. One popular tattoo or a few votes from friends should not establish a reliable standing.
The final weighting and eligibility thresholds are still being validated. Initial rankings will be marked provisional where appropriate. Upload count, your own voting activity and Premium do not directly add quality points.
Why is my profile unranked?
A published portfolio and an official ranking are different things. Your work needs enough valid, independent evaluation before a meaningful ranking can be shown. The planned ranking eligibility also includes artist participation, with the final requirements still being established.
Right now, official rankings have not launched. The sample ratings on fictional profiles are for preview purposes. They are not scores you start with or results you need to beat.
Complete your profile, upload clear examples of your work and judge thoughtfully. More uploads give people more work to evaluate, but they do not guarantee a higher position.
How do I vote on other tattoos?
Open judging from your dashboard. Compare the two tattoos and double-tap or double-click the one you think is better executed. Judge the tattoo itself, including its linework, shading and execution, rather than the photography or whether it is your favorite style. Keyboard alternatives are available too.
Your own work is excluded. A tattoo you have already seen is not offered again in your voting feed, and repeated or invalid votes do not earn participation credit. Take the time to make a genuine decision. Do not trade votes or coordinate a result.
Valid judgments help other artists receive evaluations and count toward your setup and participation benefits. They do not increase the quality score of your own tattoos.
How do I get Premium for free?
You can unlock Premium by helping judge other artists’ tattoos. No payment is required.
- Cast 250 valid votes. This unlocks 30 days of Premium.
- Use your Premium features. Add booking and social links, customize your profile, and give clients more ways to contact you.
- Keep it active. After your first unlock, cast 120 valid votes per 30-day period to maintain Premium. Your dashboard shows your progress.
These votes unlock account features. Your tattoo ranking depends on how other people judge your work.
How do I win tattoo awards?
The planned awards recognize qualifying work in a city and, where there is enough competition, within a style. Monthly and annual awards are planned. Not every style will have an active award in every city.
Results will depend on genuine voting evidence during the competition period, followed by integrity checks and independent verification that the work belongs to you. A provisional lead is not a confirmed award.
Give yourself more opportunities by uploading strong, distinct tattoos and photographing them clearly. Keep original photographs for verification. Neither paying for features nor uploading more files guarantees a win.
